Description

The coastline between Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne is some of the most spectacular in Australia, with tranquil coves, long golden beaches and wild, rocky shorelines carved by the mighty Pacific and Southern oceans.  We wander through national parks, interact with native wildlife, cruise the abundant waters seeing dolphins and penguins along with viewing wonderful coastal scenery like never before.

Itinerary

Depart by coach today from Brisbane with our first stop in Grafton enjoying lunch at the “The Captains Table”  the worlds longest table cut from 1 piece of wood. The we arrive in Port Macquarie late afternoon and relax and enjoy a relaxing dinner this evening.

Meals (L, D) Overnight Waters Edge Port Macquarie

Following breakfast, we will travel south stopping for lunch overlooking the Hawkesbury River, then we pick up our Sydney guests. On our way into Wollongong we detour through Stanwell Park so we can cross the Seacliff Bridge and take in the dramatic coastal views on our way to Wollongong.

From Wollongong we continue south to Kiama for a brief look at the famous “Blowhole” then to Huskisson where we embark on a Dolphin cruise on Jervis Bay.  Experience the thrill of sighting Jervis Bay resident pod bottlenose dolphins, the opportunity to cruise under the awe inspiring cliffs of Point Perpendicular. We’ll enjoy informative commentary on the bay’s history as well as morning tea.  After our cruise we travel via Mollymook and Ulladulla to Batemans Bay.

Departing This morning our first stop is nearby at Mogo and the local Mogo Zoo. This is home to lions, tigers, jaguars, snow leopards (the only breeding pair in the country), a variety of monkeys, red pandas and some small clawed otters – just to mention a few. Late morning we arrive in Narooma and have some free time to purchase lunch, then continue along the coast to we make a final stop at the Bega Cheese Factory, located just north of town on the banks of the Bega River. The Heritage Centre is a faithful reproduction of one of the first buildings to be constructed on the Bega Cheese site in 1899. The Centre has a comprehensive display of cheese and butter making equipment from the turn of the 19th Century. From Bega it’s not far to our accommodation in Eden.

Today we are off to Pambula and Oaklands Barn. Not only will we enjoy a delicious home style morning tea here but we’ll also have time to look around this historic property. Next up is the Merimbula Aquarium for a guided tour. From sharks to shrimps, octopus to tropical fish, it’s all on display here at the living theatre of the deep. This afternoon we visit Wheelers Oyster Farm which offers us the opportunity to discover the oyster story with a tour of the state-of-the-art factory.

Meals (B, MT,D) Coachman’s Eden

This morning we make our way into Victoria and towards the Mallacoota Inlet.  Today we take in some of the local sights at  Belka and Bastion Beaches which offer wonderful coastal views. We visit Operation Bunker, which is a World War II RAAF operations bunker that has been restored by the local RSL.  Afterwards we enjoy lunch before travelling through to Lakes Entrance.

This morning, take a stroll along the promenade and view some unique wooden sculptures. A local wood carver has taken the stumps of trees and carved them into images of Australia at War. Then we visit this morning is to a very special place, the Nyerimilang Heritage Homestead. The homestead is protected by the National Trust and features a display on the history of the Gippsland Lakes. This afternoon, we enjoy a cruise to Lake King and Lake Victoria.

This morning we visit Port Albert and the Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum here has an extensive collection of historic artifacts. Port Welshpool next for a Wilsons Promontory Bay Cruise.  Our cruise visits Corner Inlet and the remote northern coves of Wilsons Promontory. Back on dry land we travel into Foster for our overnight accommodation

Meals (B, D ) Overnight Prom Country Lodge, Foster

Wonthaggi this morning and visit the State Coal Mine. The mine was Wonthaggi’s life-blood, and was active from 1909 to 1968 and is now been preserved by Parks Victoria for future generations. Our first stop on Phillip Island is at the National Vietnam Veterans Museum, which is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting memorabilia from Australia’s longest war. From the museum we have a short drive into Cowes and check into our motel.

Today Following breakfast we enjoy a tour of Churchill Island Heritage Farm. There are historical displays, including a museum. We then take a guided tour  of the Grand Prix Circuit including a tour of the museum. Leaving here we head to the Nobbies Centre. This area offers spectacular coastal scenery as well as viewing of the offshore seal colony at Seal Rocks. Returning to our motel, we then enjoy dinner before making our way to the Phillip Island Nature Park for the Penguin Parade. Every day at dusk the fairy penguins come ashore and waddle up the beach which  is a unique spectacle to watch.

Meals (B, D) Comfort Resort Kaloha, Phillip Island

We have a great day in store as we explore the Mornington Peninsula. First stop is Ashcombe Maze & Lavender Gardens before making our way to Arthurs Seat – the highest point of the Mornington Peninsula. We board the state of the art gondolas, taking a journey over the state forest below. For lunch we visit the Peninsula Club at Dromana, and then visit Coolart Wetlands and Historic Homestead. A local guide will give us an interesting insight into the buildings history and the lovely garden surrounds. Late afternoon we arrive in Hastings for our overnight stay.

This morning following breakfast we make our way to Melbourne Airport to join your flight home.
